What private jet charter is

Private jet charter means booking an entire aircraft for your trip. You may hear it called a charter flight, a charter plane, a private jet rental or air charter: they all describe the same thing. You choose the departure airport, the departure time and who travels with you. There are no connections, no terminal queues and no shared cabin.

Unlike jet cards or fractional ownership, charter has no entry fee and no commitment. You pay for the trips you take, on the aircraft that fits each one.

The Private Coterie is an air charter broker. We source and vet aircraft from independent operators, present the options that suit your mission, and stay accountable for the itinerary until you arrive. Every flight is operated by a certificated air carrier that holds operational control.

Private jet charter for business

For executives and teams, a chartered plane buys back time. You pick the departure time, fly from the airport closest to your first meeting and can visit several cities in a single day without connections. The cabin is private, so you can take a call, prepare a presentation or hold a team meeting in the air.

A light jet suits a short domestic hop, a midsize or super-midsize jet gives a larger delegation more room, and a heavy jet covers intercontinental routes. When plans change at short notice, see last-minute charter. For corporate parties see group charter, and for several principals travelling at once see private aviation for family offices.

Private jet charter for leisure

On a leisure trip the journey is part of the holiday. A charter plane lets you skip the commercial terminal, leave when your party is ready, bring more luggage than an airline allows and travel with family and pets.

We specialise in the Caribbean. Our founder created the private aviation department at Casa de Campo in 2019, and we now fly guests to the region's most exclusive private resorts from wherever they start. If your dates are flexible, ask about empty leg flights.

Choosing the right aircraft

The right jet depends on passenger count, luggage, route length and how much cabin space you want. Range and seating below are indicative and vary by aircraft, configuration, weather and payload. We confirm suitability for your exact itinerary before you commit. For speed, range and luggage in more detail, see our private jet FAQ.

How much does private jet charter cost?

Private jet charter is priced mainly by flight time and aircraft size. As a rough guide, light jets start around $4,500 to $6,000 per flight hour, midsize jets $6,000 to $9,000, super-midsize $7,500 to $11,000, and heavy and ultra-long-range jets $12,000 to $20,000 or more.

The hourly rate is rarely the whole price. Positioning flights, crew overnights, landing and handling fees, international permits, federal taxes where they apply, fuel and peak-date demand all influence the total. Every quote we send itemises what it includes, so there are no surprises after you commit.

For a sense of scale, New York to La Romana is roughly 3.5 to 4 hours of flight time on a light or midsize jet. On one-way trips the aircraft usually has to reposition, which can add roughly a third to the base charter cost. Your actual quote depends on aircraft, dates and whether the aircraft must be repositioned. Flexible dates can lower the price: see empty leg flights.

  • Flight time and aircraft category
  • Positioning: an aircraft that must fly empty to reach you adds cost
  • Overnight crew costs on multi-day trips
  • Airport landing, handling and parking fees
  • International permits and customs handling
  • Peak dates: holidays and high-season Caribbean weeks book out first

Frequently asked

Questions, answered plainly.

How much does it cost to charter a private jet?

Charter is priced mainly by flight time and aircraft size. Light jets commonly start around $4,500 to $6,000 per flight hour and heavy jets reach $12,000 to $20,000 or more. Positioning, overnight crew, fees, taxes and peak-date demand change the total, so we send an itemised quote for your exact route.

How do I book a private jet charter?

Send us your route, dates, passenger count and bags by phone, WhatsApp or email. You receive aircraft options and an itemised quote, typically within 15 minutes. Once you choose, we handle the agreement with the operator and coordinate terminal, ground transport and customs.

Can I charter a private jet for a business trip?

Yes. Business charter lets you set the departure time, fly from the airport nearest your meeting and visit several cities in a day. For corporate groups see group charter.

What is the difference between a charter broker and an operator?

An operator owns or manages the aircraft and holds operational control of the flight. A broker sources and compares aircraft across many operators on your behalf and manages the itinerary. The Private Coterie is a broker, so we are not tied to a single fleet.

How far in advance should I book?

For most trips a few days is enough, and last-minute flights are often possible. For holidays and peak Caribbean weeks, booking two to four weeks ahead gives you the best choice of aircraft and pricing.

Which jet do I need for New York to the Dominican Republic?

The route is roughly 1,370 nautical miles, within reach of most light, midsize and super-midsize jets nonstop. Choose by passenger count and cabin comfort: light jets suit up to six, midsize and super-midsize suit larger parties. See New York to Casa de Campo.

What is an empty leg flight?

An empty leg is a repositioning flight: an aircraft flying without passengers to collect its next client or return to base. Operators sometimes offer these at a reduced price, in exchange for flexibility on route and timing. Learn how empty legs work.

Do you offer jet cards or memberships?

No. We work pay-as-you-go: no memberships, no jet cards and no long-term commitments. You pay for each trip and choose the aircraft that fits it.

Which airports can private jets use?

Private jets can use thousands of airports that airlines do not serve, which often puts you closer to your destination. For New York we commonly use Teterboro and White Plains; in the Dominican Republic, La Romana (MDLR) serves Casa de Campo directly.

Is private jet charter safe?

Safety is the first filter. We screen aircraft and operators on safety record, fleet age and reliability, and we prefer operators with ARGUS Platinum and Wyvern ratings. Details are on our safety page.
